Its beautiful fall day in New York City, what do you do? Go for a walk in Central Park, thats what you do and thats exactly what I did with Annie, Blake and adorable Emma on this gorgeous October day.
This mini session was just under three hours long. We didn’t do anything special or out of the ordinary, nor did we have to. It was enough to just be together sharing moments with them and documenting their morning as a new family while we strolled through Central Park. It was a joy to be walking and talking with Annie and Blake and smiling with delightful Emma.
Emma was only smiles and never whining. She just in awe. The sound of the crunching leaves beneath our feet, the smells (good and bad), the sounds of the dogs barking, Emma was aware of all the action in Central Park and we all just slowed down and took it all in. I love how when I am with babies and young kids, I start to appreciate what’s around me more than I would when I am running around. Everything is new to them and as an adult I like to slow down notice things that I overlook too often. So much is worth exploring and taking that extra moment to soak it all in.
I would love to have another baby in my life, but I am going to be realistic, its not going to happen! So I find myself longing for my babies, who are now no longer little (ages 14, 11, 8). Although they still want me to brush their hair, they sit on my lap and want me to tuck them in at night, but they are way to big for me to carry. I am constantly learning with my kids and I do look forward to what is in store for us as we grow. I am excited for the new experiences we can share together. But as they get older (and me too) I long for the days when they were so little and innocent and I could loose track of time while making them laugh with tickles, splashing water on them or just making funny faces. I miss the smell of diaper creme and that fresh shampooed hair. Nothing can replace that.
No day is too boring to photograph, nothing is too banal that it is not worth remembering. Everything is dear and precious, every photograph will bring you back to that special time in your life. So get out there, take some pictures, or hire someone to do it for you! Whether it is a walk in Central Park, a swim class, or a rainy day at home, it is all worth remembering. I invite you visit my website to learn more about my documentary family sessions.
