Day in the Life- Baltimore, Maryland
I met Leah. who is from Baltimore, Maryland during a photography conference two years ago in Portland. Instantly we felt a connection and we understood each other. Leah fell in love with my family work, and I instantly fell in love with her wedding work, which is classic, honest, and colourful, even in black and white. When she asked me to photograph her family, I will be honest, I was a little nervous at first, but quickly got over it.
On warm late winter day in February I took the train from New York to Baltimore, Maryland to spend the day with Leah and her family. I loved getting to know her fun boys, Lucian and Nick and her husband, Mark . Together they are a family of explorers, readers, board gamers, actors and artists. They are carefree and funny. They relish the chaos of their family, and the individuality of each other, They don’t have a TV in their house, their down time is spent reading on kindles, they have several cats, and Mark and Leah don’t have any coffee in their house, just tea.
Leah and Mark gave the boys complete control to decide what they would do that day. The only rule was they had to be respectful to each other and their parents.
There was lots of honest fun in their house; rather than folding the clean clothing, they decided to bury dad in it, and since the weather was so nice, why not lock the Leah and Mark out for a few laughs.
The weather was perfect for a ice-cream, so we ate it twice, the beach was perfect for a picnic and a game of ball, too cold for me to get in the water, but not too cold for these boys. I am thrilled to share with you a glimpse of a day in their life.
Thank you Leah for opening up your home and family to me.
